Drowning is Silent: Giving Your Child a Voice in the Water
Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1 to 4 in the United States?
As an instructor with over 10 years of experience, I always tell my families: When you are in or around the water, active supervision is your number one priority. There is no such thing as too much supervision, too many precautions, or too much safety.
However, we also know that life happens in the blink of an eye. Beyond having "active eyes" on a child, survival swimming skills are the single best way to ensure your child is truly equipped for the water. This is exactly what we do here. At Red Cardinal Infant Aquatics, we teach survival skills that act as a safety net; ensuring that if supervision is ever momentarily interrupted, your child has the tools to save themselves.
The Survival-First Philosophy
We don’t just teach children how to enjoy the water; we teach them how to respect it. Our goal is to empower them to be their own lifesaver if the unthinkable happens.
Our specialized training focuses on:
Breath Control & Floating: Learning to hold their breath, find the surface, and maintain a calm back-float, even while fully clothed, to wait for rescue.
The Swim-Float-Swim Sequence: If the child is old enough, we teach them to flip onto their belly to continue swimming toward a wall or steps, alternating with floats to rest and breathe.
More Than an Activity
This February, as we prepare for the upcoming swim season, I encourage you to view swim lessons not as just another extracurricular activity, but as a vital, life-saving layer of protection. When it comes to your child’s safety, certainty is the only goal.
